We have mentioned Apple several times in our podcasts and postings. So…why stop now! Here is a quick breakdown of the financial status of Apple. Much of the financial information is from Charley Blaine, a contributing columnist for MSN’s Money Central segment. The commentary and questions are posed by myself. Investors, clients, or Apple users may find it of value and interest.

Currently, Apple can not “get the devices made fast enough.” More revenue is generated through their iPhones than from their iPods. iPhone sales are at $1.69 billion in the fiscal 3rd quarter, a 303% jump from last year.

iPod sales dipped 11% to $1.49 billion and unit sales down over 7% last year and the fiscal 2nd quarter. Apple’s CFO, Peter Oppenheimer, expects sales to continue to decline over time. The attributed drop in sales is linked to many of the iPod features being absorbed by the iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch. Users are seeing less use for the traditional iPod.

iTunes generated roughly $958 million in sales for the last quarter, up around 17% from last fiscal year.

Where does this put Apple in the near future? No need to worry readers…Apple is ranked as the 18th most valuable company in the world and its $135 billion market capitalization is greater than General Electric, Chevron and nearly as big as JP Morgan Chase. And how about the possible end of the iPod? In my opinion, nowhere in the near future. Everywhere I look at school, every time I visit Best Buy, and every time I visit the gym I see iPod after iPod after iPod. The market’s and consumer’s desire for this product is too overwhelming at this point.
